I Must Confess...
Sometimes I like the Office Drama. It amuses me.
So today's big thing is a continuation of the same old shit. Mary took it upon herself to go down to the other end of the building. She hung out there chitchatting and gabbing for about 40 minutes.
Kerri, here at this end who has been covering Mary's work and making sure the bosses don't really know that Mary has the potential of falling catastrophically behind in her work if Kerri didn't do it, well, she lost her cool.
She comes over and whispers to me, "Can I just vent for a second?"
Oh, you know me and my magnanimous nature..."Go ahead!!"
Kerri unleashes about how pissed she is that Mary is at the other end dickin' around while SHE (Kerri) is doing her work. She mentioned that Mary and the bosses had a meeting last week about how Mary doesn't have enough time to get all her work done. That is UTTER BULLSHIT. She can't get her work done because she's either 1--not here. 2--on a personal call with a buddy just talkin' away about flowers, the weather, her kids, and whatever else she can come up with. Or 3--walkin' around the shop talkin' to EVERYONE she can.
She has had the nerve to get all pissed off at our accountant when he comes in here to print reports and to basically check to see if our new accounts receivable system is working well. The problem is, Mary has to enter all the data and she gets mighty peeved when she has some kind of deadline or pressure to make sure it's actually DONE.
I told Kerri that she's just going to have to quit "enabling" Mary in her slackitude. She's in her 50s and if she doesn't know how to maintain her job and all of its requirements by now, she's just a loser. This is all about personal responsibility. It is NOT about how our accountant is getting in her business. It is NOT about how Kerri doesn't help her enough. It's about a woman who is allowing everyone else to do her work for her while she continues to collect her paycheck. A good and generous paycheck, I might add.
So now we'll see what Kerri does. The ball is in her court on whether she's going to continue to do Mary's work and cover for her. Her husband, her best buddy at the other end, and I have ALL told Kerri to let the woman sink or swim on her own.
Damn, this is gonna be GOOD!
